About Food / Loathing 2008
Is a series of 8 gelatin silver prints.
Food loathing is the most elementary and archaic form of abjection. The subject, the ‘I’ is disturbed in their assumed security, in their identity, by this involuntary reaction.
In About Food/Loathing, two conditions are juxtaposed: The exposure of the ‘dead body’ or the ‘meat’ of the drying dog in a public place (market) and the covering of the vegetables against the cold and the heavy microscopic dust from the Gobi desert. Together they form a dialogue about the individual and cultural conditioning. The animal corpse is a Western taboo and is always hidden and covered or transformed. It is also a commentary upon the hypocrisy of the global food market with its diverse methods, and hidden conditions of killing for meat.
